Established in 2002, the Smithfield-Luter Foundation is a nonprofit organization that acts as the philanthropic wing of Smithfield Foods, Inc. Since its inception, the Smithfield-Luter Foundation has been proud to provide educational scholarships to the dependent children and grandchildren of full-time and retired employees of Smithfield and its family of companies. These scholarships are now available at Fayetteville State, Iowa State, Johnson & Wales, Norfolk State, Paul D. Camp Community College, Virginia Tech, Virginia Union, and Wake Forest. Through fiscal 2012, the foundation has granted 127 annual scholarships worth more than $2 million.
In addition, the foundation helps fund educational partnerships in the communities where our employees live and work. These include our donations to Christopher Newport University and the University of Virginia Health System as well as our ongoing commitment to the Learners to Leaders alliance.
